CAM Innovation - Custom Automated Machinery

CAM Innovation engineers and machine assemblers welcomed 12 Hanover High School (HHS) students during a tour of its machine building factory on Thurs., Dec. 11, 2014. The tour was part of the new Metals Lab curriculum at HHS, which educates students about welding, metal cutting, wood construction, engineering drawing and a variety of other machining technology.

With help from the Hanover Foundation for Excellence in Education and $89,500 in donations and equipment from Hanover-area businesses, the school district expanded the technology education program to include welding and machining. Plans are also in the works to include foundry and casting and sheet metal fabrication.

“There are a lot of opportunities in manufacturing that require skilled tradespeople in fabrication and welding. These students are our future workforce. We need to introduce them to the world of skilled manufacturing and show them what employment opportunities are available in Hanover,” explained Chuck McGough, president, CAM Innovation.

“We’re spending two hours touring most of the donors’ machine shops so the students can have the opportunity to see what’s being locally manufactured,” explained David Harnish, transition coordinator, HHS. Those donors include R.H. Sheppard, Aycock Rigging and Hauling LLC, CAM Innovation Inc., Crown Cork and Seal Co. Inc., Elsner Engineering Works Inc., ESAB Welding and Cutting Products, Hanover Shoe Farms Foundation Inc., Leonhardt Manufacturing Co. Inc., McClarin Plastics Inc. and Riley Welding and Fabricating LLC.

“I didn’t realize that there were so many machines in this building,” said one student in awe at CAM Innovation. “This is so interesting!” he added.
